This research was motivated by the problem of reading ability in learning
Arabic in SMA Al-Multazam Mojokerto. Based on the results of observations before
carrying out research activities, it is known that the reading ability of class X
students in learning Arabic seems weak. While the purpose of this study was to
determine the development of reading skills in learning Arabic for class X SMA AlMultazam Mojokerto by using the PQRST method (Preview, Question, Read,
Summarize and Test). The formulation of the problem in this study is detailed into
three, namely (1) What are the reading skills of class X students at SMA AlMultazam? (2) How is the application of the PQRST method in Arabic Language
Learning to Improve Reading Skills Ability in Class X Students of SMA AlMultazam Mojokerto? (3) how is the effectiveness of the application of the PQRST
method in Arabic Language Learning to Improve Reading Skills Ability in Class X
Students of SMA Al-Multazam Mojokerto? This research model uses quantitative
methods with analysis techniques, interviews and documentation. And the results
showed that the use of the PQRST (Preview, Question, Read, Summarize and Test)
method proved to be effective. This can be seen from the analysis of the pre-test
results with a student average score of 68.13 and the post-test with a student average
score of 77.34. In the pre-test assessment, 24 out of 32 students scored 60–74 and 8
out of 32 students scored 75–85 in the sense that 75% of students got sufficient
scores and only 65% of students got good grades. Whereas in the post test 7 students
scored 60−74, 24 students got a score of 75−85 and 1 student got a score of 86−100.
As proxied, 21.9% of students get fair scores, 75% of students get good grades and
3.1% get special scores. While the results using the T test formula show that T is
greater than T table with a positive value (13.56> 2.457), so Ho is rejected and Ha
is accepted. This means using the PQRST Method (Preview, Question, Read,
Summarize and Test). effective to improve reading skills in learning Arabic for class
X / B SMA Al-Multazam Mojokerto.
